How to Animate a GIF Inside of Photoshop CS4
12:00 PM
special effects
In this tutorial, we’ll take a look at the Photoshop animation feature to create a nice animated GIF. I’m sure all of you already noticed the ads at the right side of this page. For some of you, they are annoying, others even click on them, which is why they are there. I personally think there’s nothing to be said against them, so I thought why not creating a nice 125 pixel by 125 pixel ad to demonstrate how easy it is to create nice animations inside of Photoshop.
All we need to do is open up Photoshop, create our final image and animate it the way we want it to move the single elements to achieve the final effect. Additionally, we’ll stop by at the beautiful GraphicRiver website, where we’ll download their logo, which we’ll use to create our GIF.

We are going to create a 3D polaroid styled photo effect.
Find a suitable photograph from which to create this effect. Some tips when picking a photograph include a distinguishable background and an area within the photograph that extrudes beyond the normal outline of the photo. In my example, the dog's leg makes this photograph a perfect candidate for this technique. Note, that this photograph is image #0520011 from Photospin.com. You can download a low resolution comp to follow along with this tutorial from their website.

Some time ago playing with Photoshop and trying to make an ice effect I discovered that “dead trees” can simulate very well the ice’s “veins” giving a cool feeling to an image. I’m not going for realism here, but I do like the final effect for this tutorial. I used some text as reference, but this effect can be applied to any shape you want and can add some great style. Let’s get started!

I have changed the lady's white sari into red without affecting the rest of the image.

Channels for cutting out Objects - II
12:51 PM
designing
I had a posted a tutorial on cutting out a part of an image such as a figure cleanly with channels. This is a continuation of the tutorial. The object of the tutorial is to make the object to be cut out, either completely black with the help of channels or completely white. In the last tutorial I had shown how to cut out a figure after turning it complely black against a white background. This will be just the opposite -- a white figure on a black background. This is to stress that whatever method you use, you can either make the figure to be cut out either black or white.
